Calculate and understand home energy costs

UK calculators for the Ofgem price cap, electricity, gas, standing charges, Economy 7, appliances, heat pumps, EVs and solar.

Calculate energy use. Check your bill. Compare editable scenarios.

Home Energy Cost Lab is an independent resource for UK households. Every tool shows its formula, worked example, limits, sources and review date; entries stay in the browser.

We are not Ofgem, GOV.UK, an energy supplier or a network operator, and we do not promise savings.

Rates, not a maximum bill

The Ofgem cap limits rates for covered Great Britain default tariffs; use still determines total cost and regional rates vary.

July–September 2026 reference

Average direct-debit rates are 26.11p/kWh plus 57.19p/day for electricity and 7.33p/kWh plus 29.04p/day for gas, including VAT. Ofgem showed £1,862 under the former typical-use values and £1,663 under revised values effective from July.

Checkable method
